Evaluation of the Correction of Akhlaq-e Naseri by Minovi and Heydari Based on the Oldest Known Manuscript of the Book

Abstract

Akhlaq-e Naseri is one of the most important Persian ethical books. Khaje Nasir al-Din Tusi wrote this book in 633 AH, but in the following decades he revised its contents slightly. Akhlaq-e Naseri became famous during the author's lifetime. Over the centuries, numerous copies of it were written and had a significant influence on ethical works after it. It was also printed many times later, especially in India. The most authoritative correction was made by Mojtaba Minovi and Alireza Heydari. They used five manuscripts belonging to the seventh century AH in this correction. In this years, other manuscripts of this book are known, the most important of which is dated 656 AH (kept in the Central Library and Documentation Center of Shiraz University) and is older than all the copies used by the correctors. In this study, this manuscript has been introduced and examined in detail and scientifically for the first time. Some of its important features include some older words compared to the Minovi and Heydari correction, old calligraphy, and diacritic of some words. In this article, as a result of a detailed and complete comparison of the text of Akhlaq-e Naseri corrected by Minovi and Heydari with this manuscript, noteworthy points have been extracted. In addition, Based on other sources, the corrected text and the explanations and glossaries of the printed book require necessary corrections. Of course, the manuscript dated 656 AH does not always have the best records ...
